At WFA Online High School, we’re all about helping our students discover and strengthen their unique identity. Simply put, once we guide them to define their purpose in life, we start to see amazing improvements not only in their academics but also in how they interact socially. As M. Scott Peck wisely says, discipline plays a key role in helping people find their purpose. He defines discipline as “the basic set of tools we require to solve life’s problems.”
There are two important habits that help build discipline:
1. Delaying gratification: This means learning to balance the challenges and joys of life in a way that makes the good moments even more rewarding by dealing with the tough stuff first. For students, this could look like creating a daily schedule and finishing homework before heading out to have fun with friends.
2. Taking responsibility: Peck reminds us that we can’t solve life’s problems unless we own them. A student, for example, can’t blame their teacher for failing a subject—even if the material wasn’t explained well. They need to take responsibility by seeking out other resources or asking for help to understand the subject better.
At WFA Online High School, we’re committed to always acting in the best interest of our students. We know that sometimes our advice might feel tough or uncomfortable, but we believe that by following it, our learners will grow into successful, confident individuals ready to lead and build businesses.
