All of us at some stage or another, including learners from grade 8 to 12, expect someone else to make things happen for which we are responsible for. In Sally Eichhorst’s book titled “Get your Act Together”, she mentions 11 direct and bold statements which are meant to rattle our cages, to yank, pull and jerk our chains all at once into taking positive action.
We are going to discuss one of the concepts she mentions, namely, “Negativity like a cancer grows.” We also believe that our attitudes determine the success we achieve in life. Sally says that failure merely takes one negative thought and before long it is joined by another and then another until a steady pattern forms and the habit of thinking negatively becomes well entrenched and somehow natural or second nature.
Sally makes the following points to counter negativity in our lives:
- Happiness in life is but a state of mind and with the right positive thoughts and positive action, we can acquire that state of mind.
- It seems crazy but often when you redirect your attention to helping others it makes you feel better about yourself and your life.
- We simply have to learn to let go of regrets and guilt.
- Stop being a victim. Stop feeling sorry for yourself. Pick yourself up and realise that tomorrow is another day with new opportunities.
- Suffice it to say that no one can help you but yourself.
With these few tips to guide us, we are able to adjust our mindset towards more positive thinking and taking positive action. Join us at WFA Online High School for the future of education. A future founded on character.
